Traveler Tips for Going Down South for a Destination Wedding

Uncategorized

It’s almost time! Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare for your destination wedding trip!

  • Make sure you have Traveler Insurance especially Emergency Medical. Life happens. Especially with kids, it always seem like ear infections decide to show up on vacation. But what happens if you get sick on vacation or an accident befalls you? When you need medical attention ASAP, you don’t want to be worried about how you are going to pay for it! I speak from personal experience when I say that emergency medical is a must and fortunately it is very affordable. What happens if you get sick before you are to leave and can no longer go? That’s where Cancellation Insurance will help.
  • Go to the pharmacy several weeks before your trip (at minimum two weeks before) and ask for Dukoral. This is a “vaccine” that you take as a drink to prevent Traveler’s Diarrhea. Yes, even if you are careful and don’t drink the water, you never know where you might be exposed to E. Coli and that is one sure way to ruin a vacation.
  • In your carry on have your medications, passport, money & bank cards, toothbrush, electronics, change of underwear and swimsuit. Because if your luggage gets lost or delayed – you’re good!
  • Make sure all your luggage has tags with identifying information. Yes, this has happened to me where bags have gotten lost.
  • Pack a mini pharmacy: Bring some Advil, Benadryl, Tums, Bandaids, and Polysporin with you to cover minor medical issues.
  • Take a photo of your passport, stored in your cell phone and make physical copies too in case your phone and passport both go missing.
  • Forget the money belt – they apparently just ask for robbers to take notice! Consider a bag or purse like the ones made by Travelon that have many anti-theft features.
  • Don’t forget to pakc your chargers for your electronics.
  • Let your bank and credit card companies know of your plans to travel.
  • Bring an extra bank/credit card. It may also be a good idea to not have it with the first (if the one wallet goes missing, then having your card in another place can save you!)
  • At the airport, going through the security and check in lines, try to avoid the lines with the families. As a parent I know…. kids take a lot of time!

Happy travels!
